Web Work
Wordpress & Buddypress
There is a joy to using Wordpress that comes from a faith in its adaptability. An open-source web publishing tool it offers a mix of reliable, powerful functions and open ended customisability which allows it to be deployed in a multitude of situations.
For the small website it is a CMS allowing clients to edit their own content without stress, for bigger clients it allows for rich levels of publishing controls. For me it gives me the confidence to be able to allow some writers of BfB to publish their own articles.
Wordpress bends to the will of the author. I've written custom elements as seen at www.boyfrombrazil.co.uk and www.dalliance.co.uk which blend seamlessly into both front and back ends. I've extended Wordpress to allow for Google Map integration on the Queensbury Village website and to create a product catalogue for T-Shirt Shop Lemon.
Buddypress adds a realm of social networking to Wordpress. At the moment I have a project which will look at creating a Buddypress social network for No Hands magazine and — as with BfB and other personally published sites I have worked on — that experience will come to clients.
